What will you do?
The Digital Science and Automation Solution (DSAS) business designs, develops, implements, and supports industry leading laboratory automation and digital science solutions. Our products and platforms enable customers to accelerate science, increase productivity and improve outcomes. Our goal to make laboratories fit for the future, with connected instruments and systems, collaborative AI and robotics and seamless data access, super powering scientist productivity.
As a Director, Digital Lab Transformation, you will be a strategic leader and practice builder within our business, responsible for shaping strategic consulting and lab transformation engagements and building an effective consulting practice. You will oversee portfolios of complex projects, mentor Senior Managers and Consultants, and serve as a thought leader on emerging digital-lab trends—including GenAI, digital twins and smart manufacturing.
How will you make an impact?
· Lead the Automated Digital Lab Solutions strategy and oversee the pipeline of Lab Transformation Opportunities across global enterprise accounts.
· Partner with Sales to identify, qualify, and prioritize high-value accounts leveraging the Customer Experience Centre as a flagship demonstration environment.
· Represent Thermo Fisher at industry thought leadership events and conferences to expand visibility and credibility in digital lab transformation.
· Direct the Lab Consulting practice, deliver business cases, ROI analyses, digital maturity assessments and technology blueprints for enterprise labs.
· Ensure measurable growth in the number of delivered of consulting engagements and customer outcomes that progress implementation projects.
· Collaborate with Professional Services and Technical Sales to co-develop proposals and solution architectures integrating offerings from Digital Science, Automation, and LDA Digital portfolios.
· Oversee the creation of engineering-ready user stories and solution blueprints to accelerate handoffs to Product Management and R&D.
· Drive technical collaboration between solution consultants, automation engineers, and implementation teams to increase win rates and project success.
· Establish standardized playbooks for digital and automation solution delivery, ensuring repeatability and scalability across sectors.
· Deep understanding of scientific R&D workflows, automation technologies, and digital ecosystems.
· Proven experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
· Strong commercial acumen — bridging science, business, and technology.
· Executive-level communication and thought leadership in digital science innovation.
How will you get here?
Education
Bachelor’s degree required in scientific discipline, e.g. Engineering, Computer Science or related field. Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D., MBA) in a relevant scientific or technical field preferred.
Experience
· 12+years of experience delivering laboratory informatics, automation or digital-transformation solutions, including 6+years leading large programs or portfolios.
· Proven record influencing senior executives and steering digital-transformation agendas in life-science or closely related industries.
· Demonstrated success managing P&L and achieving multimillion-dollar sales targets.
· Familiarity implementing scientific informatics platforms (e.g. LabWare, LabVantage, Veeva, Signals, Benchling, BIOVIA, Dotmatics…) and understanding of cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP, Nvidia, OpenAI).
· Hands-on knowledge of AI/ML, GenAI, data-mesh and FAIR data principles.
· Experience leading geographically distributed, multidisciplinary delivery organizations of 100+ individuals.
· PMP®, PgMP® or equivalent certification; Lean/Agile transformation experience a plus.
· Ability to travel globally up to 50% based on client needs.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $160,100.00–$240,125.00.
