The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority’s (UTRCA) mission statement is Inspiring a Healthy Environment. The 17 municipalities within the Upper Thames River watershed appoint representatives to the UTRCA’s Board of Directors who represent the local urban and rural communities, deciding policies and programs that will lead to a healthy watershed. Our programs and services focus on five key areas:
- Protecting people and property and supporting safe development;
- Delivering landowner stewardship;
- Providing natural spaces and recreational opportunities;
- Making science-based decisions;
- Empowering communities and youth.
The Upper Thames River watershed encompasses an area of 3,421 square kilometers and is mainly rural but includes the urban centres of London, Stratford, and Woodstock. The UTRCA serves a total population of approximately 539,500 residents.
UTRCA Conservation Areas provide outdoor recreational opportunities that aim to educate and promote conservation messages to a large audience in an effort to improve the watershed’s natural environment

- *Summary**
The Flood Hazard Mapping Communications and Marketing Specialist will develop and initiate the implementation of a Flood Mapping Communications and Engagement Program designed to inform, consult, and involve watershed residents about and in the UTRCA Flood Mapping program. Components of the project will include developing and implementing a communications and marketing plan, including targeted messaging, products, and in-person and on-line engagement.
The Communications and Engagement Program is intended to be an integral component of the UTRCA’s Integrated Flood Management Process and enable a more comprehensive understanding of hazard exposure in order to increase resilience in watershed communities. This position works continuously in collaboration with staff from other UTRCA divisions and units.
- *Qualifications**
- *Education**
- A Diploma or Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution with a focus on Communications and / or Marketing.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- *Experience, Knowledge and Skills**
- 3 years’ experience in a Communications and / or Marketing role;
- Experience organizing and promoting events;
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop;
- Experience with digital media and video production;
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills and experience;
- Excellent organizational skills combined with the ability to meet deadlines and produce outstanding results within variable time frames;
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Communications;
- Detailed knowledge of the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Communication plans and products that meet accessibility standards;
- Ability to work well as a member of a team.
- *Compensation and Other Information**
- $35.81 to $43.57 per hour;
- Full time, contract 35 hours per week;
